This assignment requires me to concoct my own writing project or writing assignment based on the heuristics and threshold concepts I am learning both in class and outside of it. The project must include an element of scaffolding or sequencing, a multimodal sample response, and the theory and justification behind the components involved. I want to create an assignment which will engage students and enrich their experience in first-year composition. I took a non-traditional course path to satisfy my general education requirements, so I never took first-year composition myself. Therefore, it is doubly important for me to research my projected assignment carefully and to consider my phrasing carefully. I want the project to be engaging and possibly challenging, but not confounding. Even if I can’t make students love writing as much as I do, I want to encourage them to become the best possible writerly versions of themselves.
This assignment incorporates threshold concepts and learning outcomes from a pedagogical perspective. Students will be asked to think critically and collaboratively, both visually and textually, and engage with the rhetorical situation of assigned and found texts to devise their own meanings.
